Hi all,
Just a few pointers for those peeps new to the trails (BOAT, Byways open to all traffic) and or the TRF.
Runs will generally have the type of run in the title and a short description in the “What to expect” section.
All runs will have a max of 6 riders.
All members of the TRF are expected to follow the TRF’s code of conduct, this is especially important on organised runs.
On these or any runs for that matter, please ask any questions that you have, it’s about a shared experience.
Beginner / Newbie Runs
Does what it says on the tin, aimed at riders that have not ridden on trails before and a good way to meet fellow newbies and get an idea of the TRF, without worrying about pace, also a good way to learn about your new bike with the strange tyres on.
- The run will generally be short (< 5 Hours) with lots of rest stops, a gentle pace and easy Byways.
Easy Runs
Ideal for new members or those that want a more sedate ride.
- The run will generally be short (< 5 Hours) with lots of rest stops, a gentle pace and easy Byways.
Inbetweeners Runs
This is a newer category of ride, created to fill the role of those riders that have been on a few Easy / Beginners rides and feel they would like to do a bit more, but don’t feel ready to do an intermediate ride.
- These rides will be a bit longer (< 6-7 hours).
- Have less stops.
- Usually a slightly faster pace than Easy / Beginners ride.
- The pace should be in accordance with the TRF code of conduct.
- Will have a few more technically challenging lanes on the route.
Intermediate Runs
These runs will generally be a more progressive and longer ride, with less rest stops and more challenging routes.
Big bike rides
Aimed at bikes over 600cc normally dual purpose/adventure bikes, and also will have the ride type in the description, run at a more sedate pace.
- Byways will be suitable for Big bikes.
Expert Runs
Their either dreaming or delusional, never seen one posted but you never know, would be very progressive pace with few stops and a lot of mickey taking.
Other Rides That May Appear
There are also a few other rides that spring up from time to time, such as:
- Ride Leader training ride: Good for people who want to lead a ride but may need assistance with map reading or route planning etc.
- Event Rides: Normally run on private land and you pay an entry fee, either they will have some routes already set up or just make your own.
Final Pointers
These are just guide lines, so please add to the list if you can think of other rides or any definition that is lacking.
Remember ride in your comfort zone, if you feel that you’re dropping behind, don’t start chasing the pack, we will wait for you and some runs have a dedicated back marker, you will not be criticized for your riding, safety is paramount.
We were all newbies once, just some can’t remember that far back: lol:, so just get out on the lanes and have fun.
We all have a shared passion of trail riding, some have been at it longer than others and are willing to share their knowledge and experience.
